Boston Children’s Museum’s Japanese collection includes approximately 4000 artifacts. Objects from Japan have been collected since the Museum was founded in 1913. These objects range from daily life to ceremonial use, play and childhood, clothing and shoes, and more. Explore our collection using the links below and try both of our games: What makes this a collection? and Curate your own collection.

What makes this a collection?

Help Boston Children’s Museum’s Collections Manager curate a collection. Each of the collection groups below has a different theme but is incomplete. Can you help find the objects that complete the group?

Curate your own collection

Now that you have had a chance to explore our Japanese collection, it is your turn to be the curator. Select your favorite objects, choose your own theme, and create a personal online exhibit.
